Industry Output in year 2005 (major industries)
Vietnam's
industrial production value climbed to VND416.863 trillion in 2005,
17.2 percent higher than in 2004. The Ministry of Industry reported
that in 2005, the industrial production totaled VND416.863 trillion,
17.2 percent more than in 2004. Of this, the production value of
the state sector accounted for 34.3 percent and increased 8.7 percent
over 2004, while that of privately owned businesses accounted for
28.5 percent and increased 24.1 percent. The foreign invested sector's
production value represented 37.2 percent of the total and was 20.9
percent more than in 2004. Businesses in this sector were competitive
in both domestic and foreign markets.
Many
industrial products saw a high growth in value, including nitrogenous
fertilizer increasing by 95.5 percent, powdered milk and nutritional
powder by 64.8 percent, assembled automobiles 28.9 percent, coal
22.8 percent, beer 20.6 percent, condensed milk 15.3 percent, garments
12.9 percent, and cement 10.3 percent. Some mechanical products
became more competitive, including tool machines that increased
by 34 percent, assembled automobiles by 29.8 percent, electric fans
11.7 percent and electric motors 9.7 percent.
Vietnam earned US$24.5 billion from exported industrial goods in
2005, accounting for 76 percent of Vietnam's total export revenue
in the same year, and 23.1 percent more than in 2004. Of the seven
items that brought in export revenue of more than US$1 billion each,
five items: crude oil, textile-garment, footwear, electronics and
wood products, were from the industrial sector. Businesses under
the Ministry of Industry paid VND37.886 trillion in taxes to the
state budget, an increase of 44.38 percent over 2004. Of this, the
Vietnam National Oil and Gas Corporation (PetroVietnam) accounted
for 55.91 percent. The industrial sector had before-tax profits
of VND43.995 trillion in 2005, 57.77 percent higher than 2004. Of
the sector's member units, five had a rate of profit per revenue
of more than 10 percent. Of these five businesses, PetroVietnam
ranked first with a rate of 54.55 percent, the Vietnam Engine and
Agricultural Machinery Corporation (VEAM) ranked second with a rate
19.65 percent and the Saigon Liquor, Beer and Beverage Corporation

Vietnam Industry Output in year 2004 (major industries)
Vietnam industrial output for the whole of 2004 would rise 16 percent from a year earlier to 354.03 trillion dong ($22.5 billion), exceeding a government target for a 15.6 percent growth.
Industrial output in December is expected to rise 15.8 percent year-on-year to 31.33 trillion dong ($1.98 billion), the government's General Statistics Office said in a report.
The country recorded a 16 percent expansion in the industrial sector last year. The parliament has set an industrial growth target for 2005 of between 15.5 percent and 16.0 percent.
